Malabar Rural Development Foundation

The Malabar Rural Development Foundation (MRDF) is an autonomous charitable Trust registered under Indian Trust Act 1882, sponsored by the Malabar Regional Co-operative Milk Producers' union Ltd (MRCMPU) of Milma. The Trust was registered in the year 2000 with the initial support of Rs 45 Lakhs from Swiss Agency for Development and Co-operation (SDC) and Rs.5 Lakh from MRCMPU. With the primary objective of income and social security of Milk producer families, the Trust can take up diversified and broad based agri-business and income generation activities in general.

Market intervention in alternate cattle feeds and fodder

MRDF deals in procurement and distribution of green fodder, silage, baled straw, maize powder, cotton seed cake, groundnut cake and wheat bran at a nominal service fee. The service is made available to the milk producers through the milk co-operatives as a market intervention to keep the prices at low levels. A Total Mixed Ration (TMR) plant has been installed by MRCMPU in Pattanchery of Palakkad district, the operation of which was also taken over by MRDF.
